Napkin Coasters

I am sure most of you have seen the tile coaster idea all over the internet, but I thought I would share it anyway. Last year after Christmas I grabbed up a few packs of napkins that were on super clearance at Joann Fabrics...and this year I got to add these coasters to my Christmas decor (and list of gift ideas too!)

I love this project because it's super simple, and incredibly inexpensive.

Supplies:

Tile; from any home improvement store, each tile is less than .25 cents..and if you are super thrifty you can     hit up a RESTORE (if you have one nearby)  My neighbor found a bunch of tiles for even less!

Napkins
Mod Podge
Brush
Protective Pads

Remember when I mentioned how ultra cheap these are to make? Here's why, each napkin makes a set of four coasters! YAY!

When you unfold the napkin you get this:

Since you only need one Santa per tile, just cut them all apart...

Put a thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the tile, and add one of the Santas. When  you put the Santa on the tile, it will crinkle and wrinkle a little bit...but it adds to the charm of your final product. I haven't found a way to get it not to wrinkle up, since the napkin is so thin....so if that's not your style you could try scrapbook paper.

Seal each coaster with a few coats of Mod Podge.

Let the Mod Podge dry and add the protective pads to the back. The ones I used are self adhesive, you can find them at Hobby Lobby (in the framing section) for .99/pack.






 
I like to add a few layers of a spray sealer, because I never feel like Mod Podge dries completely...but I know many people who don't feel the same way, so it's up to you! If you choose to add this step just follow the directions on the can...
